I was wondering if there was a way to do e-mail reminders where someone could subscribe and then receive a periodic (weekly, monthy, etc.) reminder of all upcoming calendar items for that period. This would relieve them of having to subscribe to events individually.

I am afraid not  A surprising number of people are requesting email features like this, but Plans has very little support for email stuff at the current time...
