Our original web hosting company went bankrupt (was on NT hosting). I've transferred the troop's website and a large calendar file (which apparently is Linux hosting). That's all wonderful, except now the passwords for every calendar don't work.

I tried the password utility, but I can't run it from a web browser (and they apparently don't allow command line access). What are my options?

The easiest option is to manually edit the calendars.xml file, and replace this text:

<admin_password>......</admin_password>

(where ...... is some random encrypted text)

with this:

<admin_password>12eMC4Wi9/C9o</admin_password>

This will reset each password to "12345"

Let me know if it doesn't work.

Sorry Lloyd,
I failed to mention I'd already been through the archives, saw that solution; tried it, and it still wouldn't accept the passwords. The encryption results are not the same as you mention in that post.

Ok, your new server is likely using a different encryption algorithm.

You can find out what its encrypted version of "12345" by creating a new calendar with that "12345" as the password. In the "pending_actions.xml" file, you'll see a record for the new calendar.

Copy that encrypted text into the admin_password element for your existing calendars to reset their passwords to "12345" (or whatever password you use for the new one).

Sorry to be so dense Lloyd, but I can't find the password string substitution for '12345' in the new file. Here's the contents of the file:

<id>78</id><action_type>new_calendar</action_type><action_data>%3ccalendar%3e%3cid%3e78%3c%2fid%3e%3ctype%3e%3c%2ftype%3e%3curl%3e%3c%2furl%3e%3ctitle%3etest_calendar%3c%2ftitle%3e%3cdetails%3eno_details%250a%3c%2fdetails%3e%3clink%3eno_link%3c%2flink%3e%3cadmin_password%3e%3c%2fadmin_password%3e%3cnew_calendars_automatically_selectable%3e%3c%2fnew_calendars_automatically_selectable%3e%3clist_background_calendars_together%3e%3c%2flist_background_calendars_together%3e%3ccalendar_events_color%3e%3c%2fcalendar_events_color%3e%3cbackground_events_display_style%3e%3c%2fbackground_events_display_style%3e%3cbackground_events_fade_factor%3e1%3c%2fbackground_events_fade_factor%3e%3cbackground_events_color%3e%2523ffffff%3c%2fbackground_events_color%3e%3cdefault_number_of_months%3e1%3c%2fdefault_number_of_months%3e%3cmax_number_of_months%3e24%3c%2fmax_number_of_months%3e%3cgmtime_diff%3e%3c%2fgmtime_diff%3e%3cdate_format%3emm%252fdd%252fyy%3c%2fdate_format%3e%3cweek_start_day%3e0%3c%2fweek_start_day%3e%3cevent_change_email%3e%3c%2fevent_change_email%3e%3cinfo_window_size%3e400x400%3c%2finfo_window_size%3e%3ccustom_template%3e%3c%2fcustom_template%3e%3ccustom_stylesheet%3e%3c%2fcustom_stylesheet%3e%3cupdate_timestamp%3e1142980687%3c%2fupdate_timestamp%3e%3callow_remote_calendar_requests%3e%3c%2fallow_remote_calendar_requests%3e%3cremote_calendar_requests_require_password%3e%3c%2fremote_calendar_requests_require_password%3e%3cremote_calendar_requests_password%3e%3c%2fremote_calendar_requests_password%3e%3c%2fcalendar%3e</action_data>

Sorry - part of that record is doubly encoded, so the < > become %3c and %3e.

However, after decoding this, the password for this new calendar record is blank. I'm not sure how that happened - it shouldn't let you submit a new calendar with a blank password.

I tried to duplicate this, but could not - trying a new calendar with a blank password resulted in "Blank password not allowed! Calendar not added!" Trying a new calendar with "12345" gave a record that looks like this:

...3c%2flink%3e%3cadmin_password%3eNaYFXtr6jHTe2%3c%2fadmin_password%3e%3csel ...

Aw, crud, I think I see what I did wrong. I told you to replace the text with 12eMC4Wi9/C9o. That's out of date. It should be NaYFXtr6jHTe2

That still doesn't explain why your new calendar record has a blank password though...

Lloyd,
I've tried this several more times and regardless of password length, I get the same results; the password field remains blank.
And yes, if I intentionally try to enter a blank password, I get the error message.
I even tried a clean install in another directory. It won't accept the default password of '12345'.

Hm, well I'm not giving up Smile

What's the hosting company?

Also, if you want, you can email me your plans.cgi and plans_config.pl files, I'll take a look to see if there's anything there that might cause this.

Lloyd,
The hosting is now Verizon Super Pages. And I forwarded the files to your email as requested. Thanks for your help.
