I get a "403 Forbidden" when I try to open my calendar at:
http://www.mcan.ca/events/calendar/plans.cgi using Safari.
I'm pretty sure I set the permissions correctly? Obviously something isn't connecting up. Please help.

I dunno The error message:
You don't have permission to access /events/calendar/plans.cgi on this server.
appears to state otherwise...
What are the permissions for plans.cgi?

plans.cgi is set at 755.
I'm using Fetch to adjust the permissions. Should I try a different permission?
I'm pretty new at this stuff |

755 should be good. There are a couple other things to check.
* The directory that plans is in ( /events/calendar/ ) - what are its permissions? Some servers need directory permissions to be 777.
* If all the permissions on the filesystem are good, does your webserver need any special permission settings? Webservers like apache can be configured to use the file permissions or explicitly set execute/don't execute rules that override the file permissions.

|
| My server, webserve told me it was necessary to place my folder into my cgi-bin. I don't understand why. But it seems any cgi files need to be accessed that way. This might not be a bad note to mention to others. Perhaps you have already and I missed that somehow? |

There's a fair amount of text written in both the documentation and the comments inside plans_config.pl about this type of setup, and the extra hoops you'll need to jump through because of it.
You'll need to place the theme/ directory in a spot outside cgi-bin and change some settings in plans_config.pl
The "cgi-bin" convention is kind of a relic from the early days of web hosting. It adds no security, and creates many headaches for people trying to run web applications (like Plans). It's too bad your host can't do better.
